June, your grandfathers’ names and a certifcate of death (if they have passed) or official obituary should be enough to make a request. However, you will need to have a next of kin (son, daughter, wife) make the request for you.

I am trying to locate a copy of either of my grandfathers DD214’s. Unfortunately the only things I know about them are their names, the branch they served, and where they were stationed during WWII. Is there a way to even locate them.

Hey Francis: Two good conduct medals? WOW! And I’ll bet that the Skipper’s shoes shined like a mirror too.
I don’t know anything about good conduct medals, but the floors at the Diciplinary Barracks in the Military Stockade at Manheim, Germany sure shined after I got through with them.

I would like an extra copy of my dd214 because it shows I should been awarded the good conduct medal twice but only received it once. I served in the US Navy from Nov.1951 until June 1961. F.R.M.

My recent desire to receive a copy of my DD214 was met with several communications from National Personnel Records Center that required orpgona; signature be faxed twice before informing me that they were working on my request of 10 Jan 2010. I am still awaiting receipt although I have been assured it is being expedited. The SF180 is necessary but can be faxed as long as original signature and seperate authentication statement is provided.

You are correct Roger. However,many of the forms are “fillable” online where they were not in 1998. The form to correct records for instance can be completed online. I am told the reason the SRF- 180 needs to be mailed is because they are given a different priority status for processing. Comment please.

The title of this report gives the false impression that veteran’s DD-214’s are online, when in fact the article states that veterans can APPLY for their DD-214’s using an online form.
P.S. The VA/NARA vetrecs service for obtaining DD-214’s has been online for 10 years since 1998.
