While I only met John shortly before his passing, I lost a friend. John had that effect. I was visiting my brother at the VA hospital and John was delivering cookies to vets at the hospital from his wheelchair. We all should take a lesson from John and look past our own afflicitions and try and ease the troubles of another. John had a deep spiritual presence that came from the love of his fellow man.

If possible, somehow contact the Fisher Family Veteran's Trust, who assists Veterans and their Families. I saw and heard them on the Don Imus Show on RFD TV, on Direct TV and they have assisted many Vets and their Families and could possible help this fallen Hero's Spouse & family. I can only pray for all my fallen Vet Brothers and Sisters who gave their all, giving............ so others can have........ Give it a shot Go to Google and look for foundations and Veteran Advocates. I know what it's like being a non, combat wounded Vet who is an outpatient at my local Tucson, Az, VA Facility and see the young warriors, battered, broken, and overwhelmed by the reality of new challenges..and getting hooked on Oxycontin and dying slowly............ I shall donate what I can............... God Bless and use all possible resources POPS

People who have not been through the process of filing for VA benefits have few opportunities to see the mountains that must be overcome. John Mair was a mountaineer for veterans. Losing him is devastating to those of us who knew and loved him. Despite chemo treatments and dim prospects, John continued to assist veterans after retirement, and up to the week before he passed.
Peace be with his wife and family. Enjoy the view, John, from the mountaintop.
