Sad indeed. Just like most of my nightmares. When I think of the things I could have accomplished…well, I never really go there, cuz it is too sad. I now live with the gratitude that comes with survival and the wonderful opportunity to communicate with other vets. If you had an international gathering of combat veterans worldwide, taped it and sent it to the politicians, they may think twice about some of their bellicose decisions.

I think some more in-depth discussion of war and specifically America’s wars would be entirely appropriate at the high school level. After all, they are the children who will be next asked to kill and die. And I have little doubt they will be asked.

As to your question about a military coup, I doubt it, Michael. Anything’s possible, but we have a long history of the military managing to stay out of domestic affairs. Just like the long history of peaceful transition after elections, it has been a good thing. I think things would really have to fall apart dramatically for a coup to happen here.

You know what is fascinating about Facebook…is that the last two postings here, that were also sent to FB, as most are, got the most comments ever in private messages. So readers are more open and honest on FB than in comments on the articles or general information regarding veterans. I guess that would be expected from a circle of friends. At any rate I dig it! It is great to be connected to the cyberspace of Americans from all ilks.

A fine topic for a high school history class might be just that, “What Have We Learned From War?” I am sure Ike would freak out about the total entrenchment in our ways of commerce of the Military Industrial Complex.
As a leftfield man do you see a Military Coups in our future?
