Not being one who is in favor of one issue decisions in the political arena, I will suspend my value system for a few weeks, with one caveat… anyone who is in favor of privatizing the VA, should first be examined by a Psychiatrist and secondly should be drafted in the Army. Who are those nuts? Angle, McCain, Joe Miller, et al. Read the small print folks, these people are NOT patriots. They are a living “Trojan Horse.”

Senator McCain has always been considered a “Veteran Uncle Tom,” even here in California. He did not even vote for the GI Bill. Thanks for the vigilance Mr. Brewer.
Do all Marines so casually slander men who refused early offers of release from POW camps? No…only two do.
John McCain is not a patriot? The North Vietnamese guards who couldn’t break him at the Hanoi Hilton might disagree?
That was then, the GI Bill is now. The Senator is at times a bit conflicted.
You think it’s justified to ignore McCain’s past heroism, and go to the extreme lengthof damning him by saying he’s “not a patriot,” over the GI Bill?
John McCain committed crimes; he got caught and he served his time. The North Vietnamese people, being forgiving, hold no animosity towards him today. There has to be more to patriotism than just doing what you’re told.
Still taking from America with one hand and giving it the middle finger with the other, eh, Left?
No one is ignoring the Senator’s past, especially not himself. I know many POW”s, having worked in the movement, including the late Col. Laird Gutterson who was a friend, that were not, lets say aligned with the Senator. Having been raised in Arizona, I can safely say that the Senator’s approval rating amongst combat veterans of the Vietnam war was dismal. For years the Senator was of little help with VA Health Care legislation and with the addressing the complications of Agent Orange. To consider privatizing the VA and to not vote for the new GI Bill, is indeed not very patriotic, regardless of how far back in history one wants to live. We govern and legislate in the present
Mike, thanks for the thoughtful and thorough reply. While I wholeheartedly disagree with your (apparent) assessment that John McCain is not a patriot, you’ve laid out the evidence that (again apparently) led you to reach this conclusion.
Needless to say, we will have to agree to disagree.
But I voted for him.
